Hi R2R,

I'm noticing all my acans are dark brown/maroon color since i introduced them into my system. Any idea what might be the reason behind the loss of colors?

They are looking puffy but colors are just gone.

Parameters
8.9 dkh
425 Calcium
1438 Mag
PO4 - 0.11
NO4 - 13.5ppm

I appreciate any advice y'all might be able to give me.

cheers

probably lighting or flow, just the usual suspects when acans arent looking too hot. They like it pretty shaded and low flow

What par do you have them under? And what is the normal light color spectrum you are running?

Mine sit at the bottom of my 75 gallon around 75-100 PAR, and are spot fed every couple days. 165 Viparspectra lights hung 12" above the tank, with whites at 15% and blues at 100%.

Acans are known to turn a brown red color. I’ve had a few that have. Just make sure light, flow, and parameters are good. They still might change slightly from system to system…

Not sure of the PAR values.

Running 2 AI HD primes. Peak light values hit the following numbers.

UV 45%
V 71%
B 80 %
G 14%
DR 13%
CW 27%

Yes i've heard about this, its too bad, both of these acans had stunning colors, I think it might be the light settings because they are not too high up in the tank, flow should be in the low-medium range.

I’ve heard of Primes having hotspots in areas of the tank. You don’t think they might be getting too much?

They look like basic acans. $25 when I was buying em. Red and blue. The green one.
Single nice acan heads cost $50+
Or they did. Like the orange one. Rainbows are expensive but u really need to look at em before u buy.
