Acropora Question

Acro Experts:

Are there any acro species where the base of the frag/coral tends to encrust as compared to other stick acros?

TIA
Are you asking if any acros stay flat like most montipora and not branch?

Lighting is going to be a major variable on the amount of encrusting seen around the base of a colony. My suggestion would be to search the different suppliers WYSIWYG pages to identify which ones are more likley to have a noticable encrusting base. I'm pretty sure you need to experiment with angled side lighting if you want to accentuate encrusting growth around the base.

That makes sense.

I'd say for me it has been Vivid Confetti and Orange cremsicle will base out like crazy. So much that it will start growing another colony on the base away from the main

All of my acropora typically encrust before upwards growth. I wish I knew why. I have one dragon style acropora that really doesn’t encrust but that’s about it!
