Hey all, Just wanted to see why my acros are turning green (losing the reds, pink, and yellows)

Recently my No4 and Po4 were out of wack and I slowly got them down to range.

After getting my Po4 down, it has been steady 0.06-0.09 for the past week and a half. My No3 has been 12-17ppm. My alk is steady at 7.9-8.1, Cal 430-440 and I barely test Mag as I do 20% WC weekly which seems to keep it stable. I was dosing 25ml of A and K trace elements by Tropic Marin weekly after my icp test showed some elements being low.

But everything was perfectly fine until about 4 days ago. My growth is very good but just wanted to see what the cause could be for my acros to be turning green. I will send out a new ICP because I want to start moonshine but just wanted to ask

How are your lights? Par?
400 at top of rock scape, 325-300 middle and 175-200 bottom

I plan to add more lights but was holding off until my corals grew

All the acros I have, I asked the reefers who I purchased them from, what par they had them at to try and match it

That sounds like a lot of A and K in one application, maybe try to dose it daily.
When using A and K you do not necessarily need to see surplus of trace elements on ICP test and low value or not detected is ok.

For reference I have 65gal system and I use 2.3ml of A and 2.3ml of K a day.

As for green across i seen something similar on some of mine and that was just before they started growing. The tips and new growth turned green…

Provide a picture so others can comment if it is normal or not.

Good luck,

Pics, as colors are very subjective.
What do you consider to be "out of whack" with po4 and no3 levels?
Current posted levels look ok.
25% a week WC, why?
I do 20% once a month on my 15g system because I run only floss and carbon
After 30+ I do 5% a month across 4 other systems.
How do you maintain alk?

Green acros tend to come from high levels of NO3 and good, but not great lighting. Also agreed above on too big of WC's. You are throwing things out of whack with that much water being changed. Maybe try 5-10% WC's once a month or so and see what happens. You might need to look into some of the trace element dosing to really bring out some of the colors once your nutrients are in line.

EDIT - I saw you wanted to move to RMS. I follow RMS and haven't done a WC in over a year. You have to do monthly and daily dosing which isn't a big deal as well as monthly ICP-MS tests. Just so you are aware, there is also a very active Facebook group for RMS if you have more questions.

Curious, what do you consider high no3 levels?
I have ran no3 at 1-5 for years now with good results.
Recently took my sulfer reactor offline and no3 has been 18-22 for several months.
I have not noticed a change in color or growth.

OP doses trace elements on top of 25% weekly.

Maybe not weekly, its every 2 weeks. sometimes i forget lol

I run 2 radion xr30 g5 blue and 2 radion xr15 pros. I also have 2 orphek blue plus bars

i genuinely think it’s because I finally got my levels to stable range and they arent used to it
