I was wondering if i could cut away some of the top of an acrylic tank with out losing the stability of the build, the openings are just a little too small to do the type of build i want to do for aquascape

We would need more information. How thick the acrylic is, the dimensions and how old would be important to start. But if you're just asking if it can be done on an acrylic tank in general the answer is yes

How would you cut the top off to begin with? Just saw it off?

not sure the thickness or age , but here is a pic of it, its for sale for 400 and think would be a good upgrade from my 40 breeder tank

I bought pretty much the same tank for $30 at Goodwill, polished it up with Novis, drilled it for both drains and return, and its been running for over 9 years now. I've personally never seen nor heard of an acrylic tank busting open.

I dont want to cut the top off, just open it up more for easy of adding aquascape to it

well I bought the 150 tank, so yeah i think im going to cut the top off and replace it with a 4in lip around it and a 4in center brace all 3/8 which is what the tank is made of, im also going to take out the corner overflow seal the holes and put in a center external overflow on the back side with corner returns
will post pics of my progress as i start my journey

Any update on this tank? I bought a ~300g Acrylic tank with the same problem and was hoping to just cut the top back to around 4" euro-brace and a 4" center brace. Was wondering how it worked out for you.
