I'm trying to combine two acrylic sumps and have extra holes that will not be needed (from the previous configuration). I know that I can just plug holes by capping off bulkheads, but could I use pieces of acrylic on each side of the holes and attach with Weld-On 3?

if the piece of acrylic is large enough, only one piece is needed. 2 is overkill, but if you have it why not. Weldon 3 will work perfect for this.

Be sure you clean the sump surface really well. Also be sure the surface is flat. Number 3 or 4 will not fill in gaps.

if it is used, it may not be flat in which case your success with solvents may not be that great. I would suggest using weldon 16. Its the consistency of... umm, warm honey? cut a piece slightly larger than the hole, spread a bead of 16 around the patch and smack it on there. If it is vertical you may need to tape it in place until it dries. And like lapin said.. make sure it is clean and dry.
