adding 5 smallish fish to 9 month old tank

Large regal angel
Midas blenny
Royal gramma
Baby Yellow Tang

i want to add

2* clownfish
Mandarin goby (i have pods everywhere without adding any they must have came off coral and exploded)
Banggai cardinal
Sharknose Goby

Maybe add not quite sure

Joculata pygmy angelfish

bad idea too add all these at once or go for it?

What size tank?... compatibility issues aside for the moment, you wouldn't want a giant bio-load spike if it's a small tank.

i mean i could just get the clowns and the mandarin but would the cardinal and tiny sharknose goby really be that much extra the regal angel is big he's a good 6 inches

I hate to be a joy-killer, but you say in the 4' tank the Regal is already "Large"; naturally we hope your small Yellow Tang will grow steadily. I'm note sure what you are looking to do, long-term, but it addition to the other fish you already have, I personally wouldn't dump 5 new fish in there all at once. Seems like a high probability for trouble. Maybe go with the two Clowns, first, and see where you are after a few months.

what about the 2 clowns and a 5cm mandarin i mean i have seen 20 gallon tanks just cycled manage 2 clowns im sure a 9 month old 94 gallon tank can handle 2 clowns and a mandarin

What are you doing to handle bio-load? Do you have a sump (that adds to the 94 gallons)? Using a skimmer? Have a ton of live rock? Use filter socks/filter floss? Its all a factor. But if the Clowns are small, and the Mandarin is small, I'd say it would equate to adding one larger size fish; presumably any established tank can handle that. (Send a photo if you'd like to.)

i have a clarisea 5000 i have a deltic 600 skimmer i have 40kg of live rock and 4 of the big bio blocks in my sump

In theory, if you can maintain your water quality and parameters, and manage disease and aggression, you can have as many fish as you want. This becomes harder with more fish and even more so in reef tanks. With that being said, clownfish pairs can be very territorial, especially once they spawn. The sharknose goby may harass your larger fish. I see no potential issue with the mandarin or banggai.

I would be wary of adding the joculator as the only angelfish addition with the already established regal. The regal could bully it, and that is an expensive fish to lose to aggression.

yea that's what im kinda worried about with the joculata i have been looking at it since November last year and the reason i have not bought it yet what would i do too get around that any idea?

The regal is almost certain to chase it in any scenario. The goal would be to minimize the initial aggression to occasional chasing. This is would persist indefinitely, but should be manageable if you can make it past the initial phase of aggression. I have had angels together in the same tank without major issues, but it’s harder in a smaller tank.

The easiest thing to do would be to add another angel at the same time, so the aggression would be spread out. This option would increase your bioload with another relatively larger fish. A flame angel would be able to hold its own. If you went with this option, I would cut some fish from that list for now, and access later. If it were me, I would scratch the clowns and the goby. I know people love clowns in reef tanks, but I haven’t kept them in my community reef setups in years because they often become aggressive and will often host and harass other corals even when provided with anemone.

You could try rearranging the rock work right before adding the other angel, but that may not work.

Placing the new angel in an acclimation box for 2-4 weeks is a good idea, but I would still recommend the second angel in case the regal doesn’t have the territorial aggression out of her system yet.

I’m not sure what corals you have/were planning for, but the more angels you have means more picking. If you have fleshy lps (ie acanthos, trachys, cynarina, acans, etc), the angels are extremely to pick at them until they die.

i had torches which she left alone but i had a massive GHA outbreak and think that killed them =( GHA is all gone now though not a spot of it left

so i'm willing to skip everything add x2 angels and the mandarin goby?

my rock is puttied together unfortunately :(

so you would recommend the joculata and a flame? would they be no problems between these 2 as both dwarfs?

Angels usually ignore euphyllia. They will more than likely chase each other some, but that’s what angels do. This is essentially a modified version of what people do to keep a bunch of African cichlids together. The regal will be at the top of the pecking order, and the others will fall somewhere else.

Any angel would be fine though. Lemon peels can be scrappy as well, but your yellow tang may not like another yellow fish. If you go this route, I would say you are about maxed out in the tank. You will want to monitor parameters and water quality closely. This is just a method to potentially reduce aggression, but you know your regal’s personality better than I do. If you think she would mercilessly attack any new angels or sizable inhabitant, I would reconsider.

Keeping multiple angels together also becomes easier in larger tanks, and you would be able to add a couple more fish. Your regal would probably be less aggressive with more space too.

The regal angel chases my yellow tang sometimes but never actively hurts it just chases

do you think it best if i add 3 dwarfs instead of 2? to help spread aggression even more
