I'm getting some new fish today. (Tank breakdown) Among the new fish will be a large blue hippo and 3 percula clowns....

I'm only concerned because I already have a large blue hippo and a clown pair...(moca ansd black snowflake)

Anyone have any experience with any of this? Tank is a 180. Thanks

I had an occelaris pair and a melanurus wrasse in my tank. I bought all of the livestock from someone when he broke down his tank. That included a clarkii clown pair and a sixline wrasse. There has been a little aggression amongst the similar fish but my tank is pretty big and they have had space to get away. Going on 2 weeks now and all seems fine.

I should add my tank is a 265. One foot longer than your 180 and 6" taller.

hard to say but it typically will not end well with the tangs. The clowns may be fine if the stay on separate ends and claim some territory. Before you add them I would rearrange your rock work so it lessens the aggression

Thanks but that's not going to happen....all the rock work is where I need it to be.

If that's the case I would try a few acclimation boxes then.

Agreed on the acclimation box, especially with the tang. I added two tiny hippo tangs to a client's 11' tank that had a md-lg hippo in there and the larger hippo chased the other two relentlessly for a week. Things settled down after the first week, but the tank was huge and had a lot of areas the 'victims' could escape to.

In a 180 adding the new clowns to the opposite side of the tank should suffice.

Thanks.....I don't have one though

How long would I do this for?
2-3 days will suffice in most cases, but if the established tang is still interested/aggressive towards the new one, a few more days may be necessary.

during this time you will see how much interest your tang has to the new one. If after 3 days your tang really isn't paying the new much much attention let it free. However, I have had some instances that a fish has been in an acclimation box for 3 days not having any attention paid to it then WHAM! As soon as I let it out an established fish beat the poop outta him. Basically just play it by ear and keep close eye on the new additions.
