Hi everyone, we have a 180 mixed reef.
Recently we lost two torch corals and now my plate is looking as to not make it too [emoji17]
Duncan’s, candy canes, Xenia, mushrooms, zoas, acans, toadstools, hammers, GSP, Anemones, birds nests and probably many that I’m forgetting are all doing great as usual no change.

Not enough nutrients? What's your alkalinity? Also 80 is higher than I prefer, especially with low nutrients.

I’ve always kept it at 79 - 80
My alk is at 7dkh usually it’s between 8-9dkh
But that’s not enough drop to be deadly is it?
We have held these parameters in this tank for almost 4 years and have never had a problem until now.

Alk is pretty low for calcium so high needs to be balanced...

WC might not help get the calcium down...check a freshly mixed batch and see how high it is...but it should raise your alk...my worry would be what caused them to get so outta whack...do u dose at all???

No dosing never have been looking more into it tho. I’ve always seemed to be good with my steady routine water changes.

So thanks for all the info and I’m pretty sure I found the cause. My ATO was mistakenly filled with new saltwater instead of my ro/di water salinity spike was bad i think, 1.029 also why calcium was climbing I believe. Luckily no other coral has seemed to be affected. Calming down now [emoji51]

Thank you for reporting back the possible cause. This helps us to remember and learn that when salinity swings , plate and torch were the first to get impacted. We don’t know for sure, but this is a very good data
