Can anyone that's had a Nero 5 and a 3 comment on whether the 5 running at the same total flow as the 3 is quieter? I need to add a 2nd to my tank to get rid of a dead zone but I find that the 3 running faster than 60% can be annoying, especially on pulse mode.

I've never personally used a 3, but I can tell you my four nero 5's running at over 75-80% are silent. I cant even tell they're on.

I don't have a Nero but I do know if my eco tech magnet is off center it makes noise otherwise silent . Not sure if this applies to Nero but maybe worth looking at.

Ill say my Nero5 around 70-80% has a whining noise to it but still not very noticeable.

Ill say this that in a small tank a nero5 would be overkill even at 5%. So I would get one based on the size of tank.

I guess it depends on how small. 60-70% on my Nero 3 is just enough flow when combined with my 300 gph return pump for my 25 gallon tank, but I have kind of segregated high flow and low flow zones. If I added a 2nd power head it would mostly be to increase the randomness of flow in the high flow zones and take care of a dead zone. Plus then I'd be able to run both a bit slower and hopefully make the whole system a bit quieter too.

I have a standing wave in my 120 with a nero 5 and nero 3 anti synced. The 3 is the master and runs at about 100% while the 5 is at only 45%. The 3 does make a quiet whine at that speed but it isn't noticeable unless you're listening closely. Overall pretty happy with this set up. Will probably get another 5 when they are back in stock and move the 3 to the back of the tank for more flow directions.

I have a nero 5 on a 150 gal. It works great. Very quiet plenty of power.
Is your one Nero 5 enough for that tank. Taking the plunge into a used 120g and he’s throwing in a Nero 5 among other stuff and so trying to decide if I’ll need more powerheads or not.

I have a 3 and a 5 in my 75 gallons tank. Set up as parent-child with delayed running (by 0.5 or 1 second, can’t remember).

The 5 is noisier than the 3, but I never run either very high. Around 50%-60% max is enough.
