I have a single AI Prime HD on my 20 gallon coral QT Tank. I setup the Lunar Effect and am running it from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM. I have my normal schedule ramp down to only 3% Royal and 3% Blue during this period and it was working fine for the last 2 weeks, so I know I set it up right.

That being said, over the last two days it has been total darkness all night. I really do not follow the phases of the moon, but a quick Google search tells me the New Moon is tonight so I would expect it to be totally dark tonight, but last night it should have been at 2%, (or somewhere around that). I was just wondering if I can expect it to be totally dark for a few days around every New Moon? Or is something wrong with my light? Or should I increase the percentage to 5% instead of 3% during the Lunar period?

Also, would it be bad if I just took off Lunar and had my Royal and Blue at 3% every night? The main reason I have the lights at night is because this specific tank is in my bedroom and I have grown accustomed to having the light on all night, (so it's mainly for me, not my coral). I would prefer not having nights with no light, but at the same time I want to do what's best for the coral. Do they benifit in any way from having the Lunar cycle? Would it hurt in any way to just leave the Blues at 3% every night?

Any advice is much appreciated! :)

Lunar mode will interrupt your moon light settings. I can’t remember exactly why, but there’s nothing wrong with your fixture/software. Turn off the lunar mode and everything will run according to your schedule

That's what I have done, but I was just wondering if there is any benefit in using Lunar Mode at all. I would assume there is a reason AI included it as an option, but it may just be for novelty like the weather effect. I guess I can try doing some research about the effects of the moon phases on coral and see if there is anything out there to support using it or not.

I'm a noob, but my guess is that it's about some biological function of the livestock that is triggered by the moon cycle like spawning.

Lunar follows the actual moon phases or at least mimics them. So if it's a "new moon" you won't have any lights on since you don't see the moon at night with a new moon. It will ramp up and down your moon light intensity, up to the max that you set it, to represent the brightness of different moon phases throughout the month.

If you want the same moon lights every night just manually set time and intensity and turn off lunar.
