Fellow Nano Reefers

mom interested in info and pics on how you run a refugium in the back of you AIO nano

I have a 29 biocube and am looking to swapping out my skimmer for one. Just wanted to see want equipment your using. How you prevent algae from entering the main tank/pump

What algae you using and how do you manage the amount of algae….etc

LMK you success and failures…send pics!!!

I have a really weird nano refigium, very specific to my situation. . . tank and fuge sit side by side with a water bridge. . . not sure I would recommend it to anyone haha but I think it's neat.

that said I imagine your best bet would be a hang on refugium, though that will depend on the dimensions of the AOI and the space behind the tank.

Ingenious! A HOB wouldn’t work for me, both visually and space wise.

Get yourself one of these: https://intankaquatics.com/intank-m...MIkZTIxsKJ9wIVEKCzCh2QtQACEAQYASABEgKrH_D_BwE
putting whatever macro-algae you want, I recommend chaeto as the flow in the chambers will make it stay in place but also it’ll get all the nutrients before passing through the rest of the chambers. Also get a light like this ACKE LED Grow Lights Full Spectrum,Plant Lights,Growing Lamps 12W for Indoor Plants,Hydropoincs Amazon product and just turn it on when your display light goes on and it’ll keep your chaeto growing.

I'm researching a display fuge next to a display tank, and your overflow is what I am trying to figure out!

Can you explain it to me real slow?

That's so awesome!

There is no overflow really, it’s a water bridge.

I’m using three pumps. Each tank runs how it normally would independently, water flows into the overflows and is pumped back to the displays by a return pump. The third pump sits in the all-in-one portion of the refugium and pumps water into the all-in-one portion of the reef tank. That water is then pumped into the reef display, then back into the overflow, and finally back to the fuge through the water bridge.

The flow rate of the pumps is important, At least as I understand it. The way I have it set up the water from the Fuge get circulated through the reef display before it can return to the Fuge, however if the pump connecting the tanks was more powerful some of the water could flow the “wrong“ direction and go directly back to the fuge through the water bridge.

Also, keep in mind, when using a water bridge you run the risk of losing siphon and then there would be nothing to return water and the display would overflow.

Thank you, I'm worried about the balancing of the circulation. I just got new floors and I don't want to ruin them doing something stupid. I think I should be able to figure this out now though.

Can you put a hole in another siphon so it would break the flow going the other way if the levels got messed up?

I'll be posting while I learn on my tank build. Thank you for the explanation!

Yes I could put a hole higher up in the water bridge however, the pump would continue pumping into the display. I mounted the pump high in the tank so it would run dry before draining the sump. Would still lead to an overflow in the display, probably lose a half gallon.

Sharing my nano refugium setup. I used the innovative marine refugium light, chaetomorpha algae from algaebarn, and marine pure spheres. The chaeto was sitting in an intank media basket and that kept everything isolated to chamber one (ran filter floss at the top of the media basket).

For the skimmer option, I used the reef glass which was perfect for the Evo and bioload I was running, and it also allowed me to keep biological media in chamber two.

Hope this helps and good luck!
