Aio overflow cover

I have a starry blenny that likes to lay across my IM AIO overflow. This restricts flow to my back chamber & my return chamber drains down. This causes my ATO to dump a bunch of water into the tank. Has anyone used the FishGuard that IM sells to keep small fish from being sucked into the overflow? If so, do you think that would be sufficient to solve my fat fish problem?
