I believe its more than it jumped or its hiding. Its not on the floor, shelf, counter, in back chambers (its an AIO), under the rock or in between the rocks (my old stand is cracked so i removed all rocks, water and equipments with only sand left and its nowhere to be found). Its a waterbox 20 with 4 pieces of rocks.Tank mates are one other firefish (they are a mated pair or at least not yet turned on each other as they always stack on one another when sleeping and stay next to one another), a lawnmower blenny, a pistol shrimp, an urchin and a bunch of snails. I dont think it can be killed and eaten by any of these without a trace.
A timeline of what happened (I was away on vacation from early may so everything other than the introduction are seen from camera):
April 12: the pair was introduced to the tank. They stayed out, swam around during the day and was eating well. At night, they sleeps at a corner on the the sand bed against the rock or between two rocks at that corner.
May 13: they decided to go hiding in between my overflow and the overflow cover.
May 27: the two came out during daytime from the hiding space after 2 weeks and dart right back before light went off
June 3: both came out during daytime and went back into the hiding space
June 4-6: only one came out from and most likely went back (footage was extremely unclear due to the light at the time i suspect it went in)
No footage of any of them found since then tho my sitter's Mom said she thought she has seen one disappears near the rock to the right despite no footage of it from that day at all. And my sitter said she didnt see any in that hiding spot which may or may not be accurate.
June 17: I returned and didnt see any in the hiding spot until i turned the pump off and there's one (that why i think it was there the entire time but my sitter only checked when pump is on)
June 20: new stand arrived so i took out everything except sand and still couldn't find it. I have also taken this chance to relocate the lawnmower blenny so its now just the one firefish and one pistol shrimp
I haven't put back the overflow cover so its forced to stay out. It has a flat belly and by the way it acts, i think this is the one I saw on camera between June 4 and 6, but one fish is still missing.
What are the possibilities?? I heard of people having firefish hide inside rock so I tried my best to put the rocks back in its position so it still have a chance to come out, but if it entered from the shrimps tunnel then it may be trapped as the tunnel no longer exists and shrimp is also constantly rebuilding it....I dont know if firefish is capable of burrowing itself under the sand, but i drained the water to ~half inch under the top of the sand and dont see any movements (except nassarius snails) and i also topped up ~half inch of new sand so if its there, its out of water and now buried....
I dont know what else i can do or look for at this point.
heres what the rocks look like. The arch is one piece from the blasto to the left all the way to the sps. On the right is a single huge rock with hammers and flowerpots where the pistol shrimp lives under and also where my sitter's Mom said she saw. To the left are two small base rocks one to the front where the acans are and one to the back behind the sad firefish.

Thats crazy, but the tank does getting overrun by detritivores but I blamed my auto feeder settings for way overfeeding, which is true, I really hope the fish can still have a chance
