So I can ditch all my other pumps for a vortech on my 46 gallon?
If you read post one he has 2 MP 10. I read on nano reef he uses on on the back glass with the returns to create a whirlpool and the one in the side for randomness. Looks like it's working well for him.

Is that just one vortech pumping all that water?

2 x.

It's only a 47g tank. I'm sure one vortech would be more than enough :)

Could be but the shallow footprint actually makes it pretty hard to get flow moving enough without creating air bubbles or sand storms.

This. I have one as far as I could get it in the top right corner of the back in Reef Crest Mode. This swirls the whole tank and gets the entire water column moving in a whirlpool effect. The one on the side usually runs on Short Burst creating a wave, but I recently switched it to Reef Crest as well to see if it makes a difference. Not sure yet.

Depends on what sort of flow you can get in the tank. Like was already mentioned you need some random flow to keep dead spots from forming and accumulating detritus.

I have been running my mp40's in sync/anti sync random reef crest.

Wow!! Just finished reading through the entire thread and the tank looks amazing. I would love to see an update on this one
