met too! and .....errrr......qualifying for week 12.......there i said it! hahaha!

LOL! Im glad someone is being honest around here. As for the film on the glass, I might try using an aluminum based phosphate remover similar to what was mentioned in another thread.

I get the 2-3 day buildup, less when I have less nutrients in the system (as in like, 0's across the boards and even less than that.)

My current SPS frag system is a zero-nutrient input system- no food whatsoever goes into that tank, and have yet had to clean the glass since changing over the system about 2 weeks or so ago (very large water change, siphoned glass of all detritus, removed all fish, etc)

Zero input? so corals and other inhabitants only survive on the small invertebrates that reproduce naturally in the live rock?

I'm running a low nutrient system and I'm usually able to go about 4 days between cleaning the glass, but whenever I dose aminos, I notice a buildup of film the next morning. You might be overdoing the AAs?

^^ this water changes are important..

also do you have a fuge/refugium with some cheato get some it helps..

You guys are silly, I clean my glass once a week. I overfeed everyday, but do 10% weekly w/c. I run phosban. That's it, no miracle cure here. My po4 is now under 1 mg/L, and it's the most I've ever fed.

That sounds like where I would want my tank to be. Im tired of cleaning the glass every 2-3 days.

Have you thought about just increasing your clean up crew? I have a few hundred ceriths and astreas in my tank that do extremely well at keeping my glass clean.

+1 Ceriths and Turbos will help save you the additional time in between...nothing like having workers for you!

Yeah, thanks I have a clean up crew. I try to stay away from turbos in my display because I like my frags too much.

That is why we have superglue and putty. Plus turbo snails are dumb. When I used turbos I always found them on their backs. I love ceriths and astreas because they reproduce for me and don't knock anything over that was placed in a crevice for a short period of time.

If your referring to superglue and jb weld two part marine putty, then yes that is what I use as well. Ive never gotten astreas to reproduce, but I do like trochus for their appetite and long lifespan

Do you use any GFO ? I know when my GFO is getting spent I have to clean the glass more often. When the GFO is new I can go for a week without cleaning the glass. Hope this helps :)

I literally give astreas away once every few months. I haven't tried trochus yet. I will have to get my hands on some of them to see if I like them more than some of my other CuC members.

Thanks, I am already using rowaphos.

xmetal, whats your secret to getting astreas to reproduce?

Once a month I dim the lights and play Kenny Rogers The Gambler. This seems to do the trick. Actually, I have no tricks, I think there is just something in my water or tank that makes them reproduce. Just like how some people can get their clowns to reproduce and others can't.
