That middle picture looks like Ostreopsis, not prorocentrum.
Now I am confused..That middle picture looks like Ostreopsis, not prorocentrum.
Did the OP post pics from his scope? I didn't see then in the post.
Lol, they do get confusing! Now I am confused..
Take some out put it in a bowl with some h202 and see how it reacts with it ...
@dwest can you clear this up maybe ..?Lol, they do get confusing!
Yes I believe it does ..but I've not tried it ..Hey, Mack
Does this test, with a coffee filter work to id dinos
Helpful Method for Identifying Dinoflagellates
There have been dozens (probably hundreds) of posts from people trying to identify dinoflagellates in their aquarium. I have posted this in other threads but figured it might be helpful to start a thread explaining this method. Dinoflagellates are single-celled organisms that aggregate to form...www.reef2reef.com
Can you post your tank params. I dobt think you've done that yet ..The tank is 6 weeks old. Cycled with mature live rock, mature nitrate rock and dr Tim’s. Nutrients have been bottomed out since the start.. chaeto has worked too well. I have 6 fish and some coral plus I’ve been over feeding.. but nitrates and phosphates refuse to rise. This also makes me believe that this is algae and not Dino’s. I have recently had a lawnmower blenny and a kole tang vanish (there are nassarius snails). No inclination as to why.
It will confirm dinos ..only way too see which type they are is under microscope. Same works with h202 ...when you shake it mix it up they separate. If when left they clump back together then its dinos@Idoc @dwest
Have you tried the below link with a coffee filter?

Thank you
I see more and more people over here in Holland with dinos now ...think I've helped about 10 people over the last few weeks . So far all have been successful ..
I have mixed feelings on the coffee filter thing. I did it long ago and really didn't get a conclusive result. I then got a microscope and only use it for ID now.@Idoc @dwest

It sounds like just the new tank uglies. The rocks and glass are green... life is starting there. If you didn't see dinos on the scope, then probably not dinos. It looks like gha growing out of the sand to me.
Best get those nitrates and phosphates up to around 5ppm and .03-.05ppm respectively. You want this algae to grow to help mature your tank. This will then help it to out compete the dinos later! I occasionally dose Loudwolf Sodium Nitrate and Seachem Flourish Phosphorous if my nutrients get too low. You can also take the skimmer offline fir part of the day and shut off any refugium lights over the chaeto to minimize its growth while trying to raise nutrients.
Get some good cuc helpers in their...a few trochus or astaea snails will attack that green on the rocks.
He might be hung with the algae sucking in his phos and nitrates like a fuge.
Wouldn't want to break it up and re-test again?
Ard they esting it . ?? Try s couple of Mexican turbo snailsI'm leaning towards GHA. I have about 15 snails, 10 hermits, two conchs, and an urchin
