I recently got an ice fire echinata. It appears that the frag had a larger branch coming off of it that was fragged. When I got it, I noticed some algae on this spot. I figured my CuC would take care it. It’s been about a month, and while my coral seems to be encrusting over the spot, it’s going very slowly. Here is a pic.

Maintain good reef conditions and the frag will heal. It can take a while though.
If the algae was to become more invasive then I'd be looking to frag back the affected area and ensuring the nutrients in system are kept in check to stop it taking off again.

Put some glue or putty over the dead spot. Its hard for coral to grow back over algae, especially if it bryopsis or a macro algae.
You can trim it out of there once the coral gets really health. I would wait until it encrusts a bit and has grown. Frag it back to the live tissue and discard all of the dead stuff. IME, a frag can heal significantly faster than it will grow over dead area.
