How long has your tank been set up? Is this the first algae to appear?

The tank has been set up for about two months, the first algae was on the glass, now its on my sand and rocks, I havent done anything to combat it exept watch my nutrient levels.

two months...
Ya , diatoms are usually the first to show up and usually subside with out intervention when the silicates the feed on are depleted. Copepods can help speed it up. You are dangerously close to bottomed out phosphates which will invite dinos. Get nitrates up to 10-15 and phosphates up to.05-.1

Welcome diatoms, your tank is maturing and moving forward. Over the next year to a year and a half you’ll get the nastier algae, we all did and you’ll get through it. Thats is why it is called the ugly stage. Many many threads on here on how to deal with each type of algae you’ll encounter.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
