Hi guys recently I've noticed a large increase in my Alk and Cal consumption. With the amount of lighting I am running I wouldn't say I have extremely fast coral growth but definitely decent. What I have noticed the past few months is an explosion in coraline. Just looking for generalities here as I understand every system is different. Just curious how much of the daily consumption is attributed to the coraline growth

Just a quick background. Finished my first build end of March last year. Finished cycle mid June and started adding coral towards the end of June. All LPS thus far

Thanks

Booming coralline growth will absolutely consume a measurable amount of calcium and alkalinity in my experience. However, a tank packed with actively growing stony corals will consume much more.

Thanks for the reply. Coraline definitely is booming. As far as stocking currently all lps and a couple of montis

Was just curious how much the coraline plays into consumption. Have been doing a lot of daily testing to determine consumption and just when I thought I had it dialed it had drastically increased. Definitely not complaining though lol

It would be impossible to quantify how much the coralline is consuming vs. your corals, but the fact that you are dosing more is a good thing. As stuff continues to grow, and you keep adding coral, that trend should continue for awhile.
