Hey guys, my Neptune glitched and now my alk went from 8.5 to over 16.5 in a 2 day span.
My corals look fine, even the SPS. My Hanna test kit confirmed it’s extremely high.
What is the best approach to handle this situation.
I will do a big water 30% water change today.
Anything else I could do.
Thanks

If things look OK, I'd just let it come down on its own, making sure calcium does not drop too low.

What was dosed?

Well, we are having extensive discussion right now what is actually in that, so its hard to comment, but the pH likely did not get as high as if it were carbonate or hydroxide based.

Honestly I’ll do a 100% wc if you coght it in time and it’s still fresh..

I had a pump failure myself, dosed enough calcium in a day for all tests to basically max out (>700-800, normal 420), I immediately made rounds to the sea nearby and brought 800 liters (diluted 1:4 with RODI) in batches to replaced it all.

It was a logistical nightmare, but I just had too much to lose to risk it, even though it might’ve went through with a smaller wc, but with a longer stress period.

Also it’s important to note that SPS usually show good signs at first, the damage only shows up days, sometimes even weeks afterward. So current look isn’t always a good indicator.

Is the water clear?

Cloudy water that contains calcium, carbonate particles will read false high alk.
Sorry. I work nights and went to sleep.
Water is clear.
Hanna tester said over the max of 16.5.
It dosed about 3-4 liters in there so I know it’s not good lol

Ok if it is still super high, then I agree that
More water change may be useful.

Polo reef just had this happen as well. Dumping gallons and gallons into his tank he is now done with Neptune. Other people getting this glitch over that past week pretty horrible of them
I talked to their “support” team and they said they’re taking a further look into it and that it’s been happening to quite a few people.
Nice of Neptune to crash tanks then do their homework

So what is the issue with Neptune and how is it causing tanks to crash? Just wondering if I should be worrying since I rely heavily on Neptune equipment, especially when I travel, and I will be travelling several times in the next month.

So my whole system is about a year old.
I’ve went through 4 tridents, now my apex system won’t connect and was not keeping any schedules for testing, dosing, etc.
It would disconnect so frequently that the trident couldn’t complete the tests.
I bought 2xQD dos pumps and it stopped showing how much it was dosing and yesterday I got home and saw my container was empty. It dosed 4L of KH in a day or two.
So basically nothing has been working correctly and even when it’s working it’s not very accurate.

I know you are up in Fort Mac where money rains like it's monsoon season in Tahiti ( ;) ) but you don't need a controller or Trident - just go manual with a Kamoer dosing pump.

Well guys, after a 65% water change on a 200gallon system, it still shows unreadable numbers by hanna tester and Neptune
Smh

If you had a normal alk titration kit, you could just use a second syringe of titrant and add the valeus together.

Perhaps dilute 1:1 with a lowish alk salt mix and test that with the Hanna. Then back calculate the alk. I'm not sure it works with fresh water dilution, but that's also worth a try.
