So I just switched to all for reef powder and I’m having an extremely hard time getting it to dissolve properly. Anybody else on here has had and also solved this problem?

I’ve had much less trouble than others, but I agree a magnetic stirrer works great.

I have an automatic stirrer, but I’m using a plastic cup. Maybe the plastic is what’s not letting it fully mix??

Yes! It doesn’t work well with plastic beakers. I tried glass is best!

I have found using half the powder and just doubling what I dose to be far easier. Mixes super quick at that point

Warm the water to room temp (mine is low 60s in the basement) and use a magnetic stirrer. I use a scale so I have no idea why but occasionally I'll have batch that doesn't want to fully dissolve and adding a little more water and it fully dissolves. The amount needed is small enough it doesn't effect the amount needed.

Combination of glass beaker w/stirrer, warm water, mix half in, let it dissolve, then mix in the rest.

The plastic thing seems unlikely. How could the solution care?

I just mixed up my first batch. Put it in a plastic graduated wide mouth bottle with a top and shook it hard for a minute or two...no problems for me doing it that way (it came nice and clear at the prescribed ratio).

Bingo.

• Water room temp or if colder environment warm the water
• Use scale, weigh product
• Use magnetic stir/pill

Should mix clear within 10 to 20 minutes. Has always worked well for me and I make up 1800 ml batches.

Yep — very common with All-For-Reef powder, you’re not alone. You can use RO/DI only, slightly warm if possible (not hot). Add powder slowly, a little at a time (don’t dump it all in). Mix with a powerhead or strong pump, not just shaking. Let it mix several hours to overnight some cloudiness at first is normal. Also make sure you’re using the correct concentration from the instructions. If it’s too strong, it will struggle to dissolve.

There’s always some undissolved with the recommended 900 ro with 160g but shouldn’t be more than like a gram worth

Friction! The magnetic pill is coated in? Plastic. So instead of freely spinning on the bottom creating a perfect vortex it spins

and bounces thus reducing its mixing capabilities. Additionally the plastic beaker I replaced my glass one with unbeknownst to me had a slightly concave bottom and not flat like my glass one.
