Alternative to Aquarium Stand?

Yes, I know aquarium stands are typically the easiest and best way to go when setting up an aquarium, but to be honest I’m moving to a small apartments and would much rather use a dresser/desk/nightstand that could have another use.

Looking at an Innovative Marine 40g, could go 30g or 25g as well.

Anyone currently using some piece of furniture for a stand of this size?

Definitely possible of course - depending on the furniture. I would stay away from anything made of particle board and put together with Ikea-type connectors. Something that has anti-racking construction is likely important as well - for instance a desk with a connected solid piece on the back would be better than a desk with just verticals or legs. Blaxsun's estimate for weight is a good rule of thumb...

LOL, very good point. If it is an all in one tank, you might consider putting it in an acrylic tray with a lip, just to make sure. You could make something that looks nice and blends into the tank, or desk top.
