I have the Red Sea Nitrite/Nitrate test kit.

I am looking for confirmation on how to properly read the test results. Currently I place the vial on the card (the vial is definitely a pinkish type color), and look thru the vial water from above. While looking, I slide the vial over the colors on the card a bit to see which colors I can't see thru the vial and which colors I can.

When I slide the vial over a color and I can see the color difference thru the vial I assume my color is lighter than that and when I slide the vial over a color and can't see the difference I assume my color is darker than that.

Is this the correct way to read it or am I off track here? Oh, I have a color deficiency and am largely color blind.

Is this with the color wheel? If so, the the titrant sample goes in the middle and the clear sample you look through against the wheel to compare the colors.

I have my wife, she's an artist, read mine. LOL. But seriously, some men seem to have a real problem with color comparison. Seems to work better for me when I do both as you wrote, and look at the color over the white area of the card.

Its not the kit with the color wheel, it just has a card. I'm concerned because when I just look at the vial from the side, I think its kinda strongly colored, but when I start looking thru the vial and moving the vial over the colors like I described in my original post, it reads lower than I would have thought. Just thinking I may not be "seeing" the colors correctly...with my color blindness.

I'm sure you know this but the top read, looking down through the liquid from the top is for the higher levels and the looking through the side is for when the levels are lower.
