Lol I had to say it just for the record I by no means ment anything in a personal level and didn't think if get so many responses lol! And how do you kill xenia ha ha
It just maybe a touchy topic no matter how you phrase it because you get an F for originality here. This same topic comes up almost every 2 weeks. Use the search feature and you'll see it. The art comparison is dead on but at the same time it is 100% personal opinion. If you like it buy it, if not just pass on it. I like chalices BUT i have SPS LPS Shrooms, even crappy xenia (plus if you know how to kill it please let me know because im tired of cutting it and throwing it out). I personally hate xenia and it is the weed of the reef tank hobby. But i wont put up a post titled "Am i alone in thinking Xenia Sucks" and not expect to anger the 3 people in this entire hobby who love it and then get posts that tell me to buy what i like. Thats why we have rights to speak out our own opinions. These are all opinions here, not fact and you will always offend someone when you try and bash what they like doing. Just my 2 cents and i dont care who knows that i love chalices!

Once again there was NO bashing and honestly I could care less about the F lol it wasn't ment to bash anyone and I didn't bash anyone I simply asked if anyone else waited for th craze to end before buying a coral. I know people will buy what they want and honestly if you get offened by mr sayin any one else not on the chalice craze then that's weak lol I love some of them just not enough to splurge on them yet and was simply seeing who aggreed! I have seen most of them and they are sick pieces!
No point in this thread. We all know there are those that buy expensive corals because they like them. There are people that buy expensive corals because they are popular. There are people that buy something because it is "rare" or hard to get. There are people who feel that any coral over $100 is just crazy. I could go on and on and on. There is no point! :D Ocean, your experienced enough to know this. ;)
I'm proud to be a chalice addict, and sps addict and zoa addict. I've paid $500 for an inch of chalice before, I've paid $50 per polyp of zoanthids too. I'm not going to pay top dollar for something that's ugly even if it's a fad. I like to look at the money I spend on corals as an investment, and I know my wife enjoys the extra cash that selling frags brings in to finance her shopping trips LOL.
You didnt get what i was saying, i was making a joke of the fact that you should be getting bashed. I was just simply pointing out that this happens every month so what is happening to you happens to others. I'm not the only one who sees it and maybe that is why people get mad and keep putting up the "then dont buy it." Only because we have to hear the same whining on a monthly basis about how the prices are so bad and how they grow so slow and how people keep buying them and it keeps the prices high. Its all supply and demand. If i love the look then ill pay for it. If it take a year to grow big enough to frag then yes it will be expensive. I grow SPS like weeds and most of the time i just give away what i frag from them because i can do it weekly. Chalices take more time and a little more care so people will charge more. Now are you wrong for saying its too high? NO. Are there people out there who abuse the game by keeping things high priced and out of the normal everyday flow for buying? YES! So that can definitely be complained about. But i am not bashing you, im just explaining why others might be! Now stop being jealous of my awesome chalices!!! :snicker:

Some of the prices are ridiculous, but just like anything else - its all in what you want and have money for.
I have seen some sweet tanks that were done on a budget, and have seen some that guys have 20k tied up in just the equiptment.
I have also seen thousands and thousands in a 30g breeder setup like a frag holding station that looked like hell.

It's all personal choice not keeping up with the Jones..A lot of reefers are passionate about collecting corals and if they find a niche they like, than by all means go for it! Whatever makes you happy :D
