Oh I'm a broke reefer with expensive corals. That's why I'm broke=)

LOL see point proven! Has nothing to do with social status! As I am a college student who lives on his own while getting my master and I could buy a 500 dollar chalice I just choice not to!

thats your choice, so stick with it. but dont worry about the people who do choose to buy them. lets us enjoy our corals, you enjoy yours...whatever the price we pay.

Been in the chalice craze before the craze hit. Only chalice that interest me are the old school pieces which so so hard to find.

That's what I'm screaming. I pay for my corals by trading and selling. I also work at a LFS so I get dibs on some of the stuff that comes in. I like nice corals no matter what they are.

My idea is to just keep it fun. I had beer cans , my sister had bennie babies . Not worth too much now. All fad things come to an end sooner or later.

Lol this was not ment to get chalice people worked up or about you enjoy tours ill enjoy mine jus wanted to see if there was anyone else who didn't buy into the most have coral at the time! I just think people do it not because they really love a piece but BC its a status thing to have the hot coral! Just wanted to see if I was a lone in the boy falling into the cool coral fad lol and trust me I love my corals no matter what they cost this hobby is great!

I enjoy all the nice, bright, vibrant, contrasting corals. From softies to sps, I don't really care what it is. If it is unique and cool looking, I'll put it in my tank.
There is also something appealing about having only the top notch corals that are hard to keep colored up and growing right.
The cost of some is a joke, I'll give that up. While others are worth it. But it isn't for me to decide - the beauty and worth is in the eye of the person shelling out the cash.

If xenia and gsp turn you on...go for it. But to bash those that spend more money on their tank than some make in a year, seems a little.............
To each their own.

I would be HIGHLY surprised if ANYONE admitted they haven't bought/collected stuff in their life that was worthless later on, including name brands, ect.. its called life......

Most of the time when I personally have the time to post "Am I the only one......" is because I am jealous for whatever reason. I already know the answer, but want someone to back me up ;)

Just for the record I was by no means bashing anyone just saying I don't spend that kind of money on a coral!

I will be selling all mine in the fall - Obama will have found a job for everyone and it will be cool enough to ship.

Lol and I am by no means jealous of anyone or anything! If I wanted if but a 500 dollar coral but a half inch to me is not worth it! Jealous? I have a 180 gallon tank I stare at all day! By far that was the fareat away reason I posted this thread like I said wanted to see if others waited out the craze or fad coral before they got them! And I will be the first to say some of those some of them chalices are amazing looking others that go for 500 are ugly but to each his own is correct

who are you to assume what other people do? all your doing is stereotyping. if i buy a chalice for 300, it must be because i want to be cool like the rest? no, its because i like it and dont mind paying for it. i collect chalices because i like them! i can also trade them for other things i need/want.

Well said COReefer...thats like saying i dont know why a mercedes cost so much more then a ford...they both run from point a to point b. They both have the same color interior/exterior...black, red, white....The price is expensive cuz its a slow grower...if its fast grower i bet it'll be alot cheaper then what its going for...just me "ONE" cent hah

Not really a fair comparison. They are both coral and the only difference is color. That's like saying I'll give you $10,000 for a chevy Cobalt but if you put a really nice paint job on it it's gotta be worth $150,000.

You should really compare it to art, cause there is always someone that will pay $500,000 for some paint splashed on a canvas.

Lol wow your taking this thread the total wrong way! All I was asking was does anyone else not go with the fad from what I member it was zoas then favias then acan then sps now chalices I didn't say anthing about being cool untill I was told I'm jealous lol which trust me I am bye no means jealous of anyone who spends 300 on a coral! And if you like it and think its worth 300 and not doing it BC its a fad then sweet! I would pay more for something I like weather its a fad coral or not

Let's keep the discussion from getting personal. :D

I like the comparison to a work of art

lol this will get in another direction .. its just like a thread " Am I the only one"... who thinks spending 10.00 on Xenia is a waste ;)...

Ha ha ill spend ten dollars on zenia
