Currently using Brightwell Phytoplankton and Zooplankton (5 ml / 1 cap per week ) with 1 ml of Red Sea Trace Colors ABCD ( daily)

Should i also provide Aminos ?? Which Aminos will be good to go ??

I have 125 G mixed reef . With Orange Omega Zoas , King Midas Zoas , Clove polyps , Discosoma Mushroom ,Forest Fire Digitata and Light Violet Goniopora

Hey @Badger_Reefer!

For your coral selection I think adding amino acids could definitely be beneficial. The softies will appreciate the dissolved organics and your goniopora in particular is known to respond well to amino supplementation.

As for which aminos - Brightwell's Aminomarine and Polyp Lab's Reef-Roids are good go tos. Red Sea also has Reef Energy A which could be another solid option.

If you do decide to start adding aminos, start with half the recommended dose and work your way up slowly while watching how your corals respond. The phyto/zoo combo you're using provides aminos as well and you don't want to overdo it.

I’m not sure I’d dose amino acids unless N was low. You may find you boost cyano as much as anything else.

Dose very sparingly initially. I ran into issues with cyano and dino.

I’ve had really good luck dosing Amino-Organic in my nano. I’m already N limited, and this product has some N in it. I stopped dosing ammonium and moved to this and so far I’m really pleased with the results.

I had a 9 hour car ride today so I listen to a bunch of Salem’s 12 hour podcast marathon from late last year. Eli (sp?) from aquabiomics talk went into a segment about aminos. He stated that they were good to help fuel bacteria. Is something along those lines. Is that correct?

That means Aminos boost Nitrates which may fuel bacteria as well as Coral Growth simultaneously. I guess!! So gonna start dosing Aminos on my 125 G from the lowest !! To check the ugly stage prospects.

Aminos may increase no3 and I would not use it for nitrate control. I add 1-2x a week for my corals

If the Skimmer and Nitrifying bacteria can balance the excess NO3 … then i think i will go daily 1 ml !!

I’ve been dosing 14 ML daily into 525g for a long time. Not sure if it does anything. But a gallon lasts me 271 days, so I feel like I’m being very frugal for some reason.
