i think ammonia is a much worse offender than nitrite. nitrite is less harmful but still no good imo.
Nitrite is not a concern and is not worth measuring, unless one is trying to determine if a nitrate reading may be falsified by nitrite being present.
Concerns about nitrite are a carryover from freshwater systems where it is a concern. But no real concern extends into marine systems.
