An eel in a teef tank?

10-12 inches is the max I've ever seen. You could get away with a 40 gallon tank. Obviously larger would be better for helping with the bio load.

You probably could. I just like slightly larger volume for tank stability.

I also have a 20 gallon sump and a skimmer rated for a 125 gallon. I am not worried ;)

Zebas morays are one of the most docile species of eel and are considered reef safe. I have kept for years and hasn't touched anything. Was kept with tiger tail cucumber, harlequin shrimp, cleaner shrimp, and small fish too. Never an issue and thats why I chose zebra specifically. Go for it...eels are awesome

I have a 9-10" snowflake in my 105g open top reef. So far I only have 1 damsel and 2 clowns. He has only half a•• struck at the damsel when I was attempting to feed.

I fed him daily when I first got
Him a month or so ago, now feed him every 2-3 Days. He has been awesome and never tried to escape. I've caught him swimming at lights out and he still has not tried to get out.

So I'm getting my 50g corner pentagon set up and am considering an eel. Not sure what kind yet. My concern though, is that I plan to have a goby and pistol shrimp pair. Is that something I should be concerned with being eaten by an eel? Thanks

Yes, shrimp can be on the menu. My chainlink has allowed hermits, peppermints, and skunk cleaners to live (takes a skunk down every 2-3 months but always leaves 1).

My Zebra ate 3 pistol shrimp, 5 peppermint shrimp, 2 emerald crabs, but has not touched a coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp and porcelain crab. I miss the shrimp as I had some of them for 3 or 4 years, but the eel is pretty sweet.

Thank you so much! That´s the problem with the Banded Snake Eel, they hide during the day only leaving their tiny head out of the sand in some place you can´t see it! lol This one is two feet long and very shy. :)
