I've got a 16"x12"x12" section in my sump filled with live rock. Detrius collects on the bottom and I can't get it out. What I would like to do is turn it into a fuge. Other than macro and a chunk of live rock what kind of livestock can I put in there? I was thinking a cleaner shrimp, Florida ceriths, cucumber, or something like that. What do you guys think?
Yeah man I was just cruzing around some of the cube threads looking to get some updates. What did you decide to do with that section of your sump? Can you see in it ?
I haven't done anything yet. My qt is in front of the sump so you have to look through the qt to see the sump but I still haven't decided what to do. Noone has given their opinion on any forum
IMO the section would be best used as a fuge. The criptic zone you have now is not going to allow nutrient export. It is good for growing sponges if you have a picky fish. You can move rock back and forth to supplement their diet.
If you set it up as a refugium your nitrates and phosphate can be lowered.
If you were thinking a sand bed a cucumber would clean up the detritus. It will be hard to keep an eye on him since you can't see in.
Started pulling all the live rock out of my sump to set up my fuge in a couple weeks. Found a couple pieces I liked and rescaped! Hope you guys like it

I can't wait to get some sticks going. I just filled my display on Sunday and it's almost cleared up. My display should be ready in January and I'm getting impatient.
