Anemone detached and floating

Good morning,

I got a colorado sunburst bta a few days ago for my IM 15gal tank. To my horror I checked my tanks camera and he is free floating (Im at work)! He was attached to the rocks for a few days and only moved a bit. Is this a sign of stress? I tested last night at 8.6alk .10 phoshate no3 4. I luckily have a anemone guard on the pumps and fortunately he caught himself back on the rock. He has looked very good and healthy in my opinion but this is the first time I have owned a anemone.

Relax. It will be fine. Anemones move around the tank until they find a spot to their liking. When it does, it will anchor itself down again.

Anemones are not coral; you can place them, but you can't expect them to stay.

I know they move but I didnt expect him to be blowing around the tank like a piece of mysis I thought they try to remain attached always.

I've seen anemones do this before, as long as your parameters are stable, light and flow are good, this is nothing to worry about. Sometimes a water change will stress them out, they will detach, but the next day look better than ever

Nano is 3 months old. But was seeded with rock from my main display which is around 7 months. Parameters are stable i test daily with hannah checkers.

Ok cool! Parameters are stable ive been checking daily with hannah checkers. Par is around 150ish flow seems good imo. He might just be looking for all the spots since ive only had him for a few days.

3 months is young for a nem, 7 months isn't much longer in the scheme of things. Some people keep them in young tanks but often they have trouble settling in. If it was crawling around vs letting itself be blown around I'd be more optimistic.

Well to be fair it crawled around for the first 3 days and I only saw it detach for a moment today. It has already reattached to the rocks. I dont really believe in a tank being to young for a anemone but we will see maybe im wrong.

That's good that it attached. I suppose it's possible it could be the experience of the reefer as much as the tank age. Personally I find young tanks to be very finicky at what survives and what doesn't. There are so many things going on that make a tank stable / mature not just the things we can test for. But I'm not even close to being an expert.

Your are for sure right. Ill just continue to test daily and try my best to keep everything as stable as possible to give it the best chance.

It’s an expensive gamble.. I would consider moving it to the more established system if possible. I’ve never personally had any of my nems let go completely before.

I can move it to my main display and put it in a acclimation box. I think it looks pretty healthy currently. I feel like I should wait for signs of stress before I do this but idk.

Acclimation box is a great idea. I would consider it detaching like that a sign of stress.

Beautiful nem! Be patient, keep testing regularly (daily is more than I would do) and enjoy the anem. Have you considered a host?

This is also why everyone says if you have a nem, you need gaurds on your wave makers.
No exception to this rule unless you have no wave makers.

This is a im15 so I only have a return pump on this tank. I have a guard on the overflow teeth so hes completely safe when he detaches fortunately.
