My anemone is doing healthy and I got him about 1 week and a half ago.

He hasn’t latched onto anything but I’ve had questions and concerns for him.

Water parameters

Salinity: 1.026

Temperature: 76

Nitrate: 5.0

Phosphate: 0.2

Ammonia: 0

Calcium: 480

Magnesium: a bit lower but around 1300

PH: 8.0-8.4

It’s a condy orange and green anemone, he hasn’t latched but my question is:

Why is it that every time I turn my lightning on in the morning, he gets smaller and hides basically but when lights are off he’s moving around and getting really big?

Should I be concerned and what should I do??

Can you share a photo? How old is the tank? what are you using for lighting and flow? Your temp is a bit low, get it up to 78-80.

If the nem is moving, it means something is making it unhappy, usually light, flow or water conditions.

I’m using a 100 watt light also he has moderate flow as recommended and also my tank is a year old

He’s my first anemone IN THIS TANK

He’s doing healthy and I don’t touch or try to move him, he’s been in the same spot for a day or two now and at night he gets big and idk if he’s gonna end up getting comfy where he is so I’m not touching him at all. Also that’s what I thought especially for the others so I bumped it to 80, everything is perfect I’m just thinking it’s time that he needs more off just a bit honestly.

The lighting seems low because of the camera quality but at night he’s huge and out but during the day he’s just smaller

That tank is cloudy; it looks like a bacterial bloom to me.

Ok. If you want to provide more info about lighting and flow equipment we could help critique on that, "100 watt" and "moderate flow" really doesn't tell us anything. a 30 second video or so, provided here with a youtube link would be helpful as well. If you want specific advice, we need specific information.

If the nem hasn't moved for a couple days, you're probably on the right track.

i was thinking that, but they said the tank needs cleaning so perhaps it is glass needing to be scraped?

Yes it definitely does and I apologize, I’m running a A100 aqua space 100 watt light and and a regular aqueon 700GPH wave maker.

I hadn't considered that.

The tank doesn't look a year old. To me, it looks like less than. Color on the live rock is only starting to come in.
New rock added for xenias 😭how you gonna assume instead of asking. Been about a year and 2 months

Easy friend; I was just trying to help.

In my experiences, that amount of coloration of rock in a new tank usually happened around the 3-4 month mark. That your tank is over one year and isn't further along in its development may be an indicator to the problem.

Good luck.
