Anemone powerhead guard for Ecotech

As many have posted, there seems to be a number of anemones ending up in powerheads (A/K/A veggi-matics) and getting chopped up or stuck.
A new product has been released for Vortech MP-60 powerheads although I have not seen one for the more popular MP40 units yet.

It is known as the NEM Protect and is roughly $50. While $50 may seem steep, it will be more expensive to lose an anemone especially an RBTA at a higher price. Havent seen it advertised yet, but its' coming.

If you have a printer, the source files are hosted on Thingiverse for the MP40s. With that said, I've read reports that they have a significant impact to flow and the one above is very similar in design.

While I understand it's purpose and worth, they will never be able to justify asking $50 for a piece of plastic IMHO.

pretty ugly if you ask me. I wouldnt pay $10 for it as it just makes it look awful

Sizes for all three vortech models on BRS for a while now. FWIW, only the side part is really necessary; the front is not. Hard to see how just the sides would impact flow.

Put one on a MP10. Didn’t notice reduction in flow. If there is, to me it’s minimal. The trade off is bigger wet side size, and $30 vs. weekly cleaning of the foam protector, and loss of flow as detritus builds. During the week the speed would need clicked up every couple days to maintain flow as the foam clogs. Less maint = [emoji3].

I designed and sell a similar design.

In order prevent an anemone from getting its main body into the pump, the holes are small and it restricts flow, especially at higher pump speeds. I had to turn my mp-40 up by two lights to get the same flow at 3/4 power.

A dirty foam filter is a lot more restrictive.

Side affect of not taking time to fine tune your machines to use petg. It's pretty easy material to use, it's very difficult to get just right.
