Does anyone have any input on how to maybe keep it in one place? I got it like 1 maybe 2 months ago, and I though it found a place it liked, but last night it moved to a completely different rock. do I just have to wait until it finds a place it likes?
Anemone won't stop moving around

sometime yes they are weird things that make no sense they will move and move until they are happy.
Having that said if its still moving around 2 months later then its probably unhappy. post some photos of it please?
1. Do you have a suffcient light ? What kind of light ? what are your light settings and schedule?
2. What are your water parameters ? Please post.
3. tank age and size?
4. Tank mates ?

most of the time the issue here is the age of tank and the parameters not being stable. But other times its the lack of light for the nem. they do require a good light to survive for they need the zooxanthellae that are photosynthetic and are required to live healthy lives.
if parameters are good then read below ( please still post them though)
you can always tell if it needs more light because it will constantly be trying to reach for the light at higher distances or try and stretch itself towards the light. IF its reaching for the light then that may be your issue ! but do not make any light adjustments quickly take them slow very slow. Remember any sudden change is bad ! also if the color of the nem looks bleached it could also be from not enough light !
on the other hand the light could be too bright if it looks bleached also. but you can notice the nem not being as retracted and kinda hiding from the light under rocks or caves ? or just not extended.
so much could be told by a good clear picture of the nem at different locations in your tank !

I’ve had an anemone for about a year and every few months it goes on a walkabout. I just let it do its thing and let it settle in. I don’t make changes to my tank to accommodate the nem and it just seems to wander.
But @rapid makes a good point. My nem will even head to a darker area for a bit but always makes it’s way back towards light.
You could try feeding it when it settles in a spot you like as it might also be looking for a good place for food to pass by.

What kind of anemone is it? Different anemone species like different condition. You need to provide optimal condition for him so he will stay where it is. Great water condition is a must. When they have poor condition, they will try to move to a better location. If the condition is too bad, they just let go and flow directly to your power head.

I don't think water parameters are the issue as I have another BTA which has been happy and healthy for a few months. the tank (20 gallons) is more that 2 years old, and everything seems very stable. I might do a water change soon (I'm leaving town for a bit).
Lighting is AI prime HD about 6 inches above the surface, so I don't have it at very high intensity (again, the other RBTA is doing fine)
When I got the anemones (about 2 months apart), they stayed away from each other, but about a week ago, the other nem (black widow, not rainbow/rose like the one that's been moving around - I know, my bad) moved slightly into the rainbow one's tentacles and I think they had a bit of a stinging match. the rainbow moved and hasn't really found a place yet. some days, it'll stay shut until after 12:00, and when it opens, it will occasionally have deflated tentacles (it seems to perk up after I feed it, but maybe I'm stressing it out more, idk)

I should mention I feed both of the anemones NLS fish pellets, which they seem to love and react very strongly to.
tank mates are a just a pair of Ocellaris clownfish and the female is the only one which has been hosted by the anemone (only the rainbow bubble tip) which might be aggravating it a bit. She's pretty aggressive in her hosting and she's a pig who would keep eating until she popped, so she tries to get the pellets from inside the anemone (but usually gives up after a minute)

BTA are hard to get to stay still, compound by the fact that there should be several species that all lumped together as BTA. I don't keep much BTA, those that I keep like lower light and current, like lower level LPS light requirement and circulation.
