I am re scaping and redoing my FOWLR tank and I want to take this opportunity to add another fish. I would like to add a Queen Angelfish or another Larger Angelfish that i cant have in my main reef tank due to the size as well as them eating coral.

It seems that the Queens are a big more aggressive than the Emperors/French etc. Can anyone who has good experiance with angels kinda give me some advice here on which would be the best to add ?

Tankmates are

Yellow eye kole tang - current tank boss (prior to rescape)
Porq Puffer
Melanarus wrasse

I will probably add another tang as well probably a zebrasoma of some form

I grew my French Angel from a juvenile to the size a dinner plate-- so realize how big they get. The H. Singularis is a nice size, if you want a nice size fish that doesn't get too out of control.

Would be nice to know how big is the tank...just saying

I would definitely not get a Blue/Queen since they are on the aggressive side. I would do Emperor, Regal, Swallowtail, or (my fav) Blueface. Say goodbye to your zoas/softies since angels will eat them. My angels are doing fine in a reef with SPS, mushrooms, hammers, and torches.

Current Tank is a 120 but I will upgrade to a planet 215/220 in the future. I know the 120 isnt large enough to keep them long term. Will they eat ALL soft corals ? like even down to GSP/toadstools ? i was under the impression they would just mow down all zoas

Thanks

GSP, toadstool, mushrooms are fine. Zoas, acans, and chalices are like candies! Oh btw: no aiptasia problem since they’ll eat them as well. No need for a CBB ;)

Here’s my tank with angels

A lot of what I have read also said best bet would be an Emperor because of their personality but something about those queen angels the colors are so awesome.

I will be running whatever i get through a QT process because my puffer easily gets ich. Are there any special things i need to worry about when using copper with these Angels ?

My normal process will be a prazi bath for 6 hours or so then QT tank 2.0 ppm with copper power for 14 days on fish without any signs of ich and ill do a full 30 if they have ich and its worked perfect for me so far.

Thanks
Bill

The French Angel was in a very lightly stocked 150, and this Emperor was in a second lightly stocked 150. Due to the swim patterns, the Emperor (actually a pretty chill fish) seemed OK; the French most definitely needed a larger tank.

+1 for Emperor

No issues with copper. I just do a 5min FW dip and 90min in Prazi but that's just me.

How long did it take you? I bought a medium-size French 6 months ago and it hasn't grown much yet - super strong eater but somehow got high metabolism? ;)

I fed my French Angel as much as he wanted to eat. The growth graph was fairly constant.

This Majestic Angel probably had the least aggressive personality of all; I only got him to this big before a heater-disaster wiped him out. 😩

Just another shot of my Bannerfish (H. Singularis), because they are not too common. As large as my outstretched hand.

Let us all know what you finally decide upon!

I think its gonna be a majestic or an emperor and a zebrasoma tang

i cant think

I agree with the Majestic option. Here’s mine in my 5 foot 180G tank. I wish I had a recent close up of him, he’s now fairly large, the Red Planet below him is around 8 inches long.

And yes, I have 4 angels in my reef with no issues from coral nipping. I also have 2 Butterflies (Yellow Longnose and Crown) along with 2 Rabbitfish (Virgate and Magnificent), even these guys have given me no issues with coral nipping.
