Hey guys, I'll try not to make this a rant.
As I am sure some of you know I transitioned into making specialized nano reefing gear in the middle of 2020 as a way to offset my loss of losing my main business.
To date, I have done over 200 sales and have lots of happy customers.
I've had a few people get broken items or defects, and I have done my best to keep on top of those and make things right were I can.
Unfortunately, there seems to be a new scam going around...
For the last 3-4 weeks I have had a dozen false chargebacks against me. Several thousand dollars.
2 of them had reached out for support in setup, but were unhappy that it was "too hard" to do, so they filed claims and kept the items.
4 of them literally bragged about "this is the easiest way to get free stuff"
and the rest had never reached out to me at all.
Each time there is a chargeback, several things happen.
- I lose $15 from my payment processor
- I lose $34 from my bank as fees
- I am left with a negative balance in my account (I am not getting rich off this stuff)
- I am forced to take a loss on future orders until the chargeback amount is covered or returned.
- The customer in every single case gets to keep their products that in every case I can tell, are fully working.
Behind the scenes, the customer instantly gets their money back and the bank takes it away from me, they then get 3 months to decide the outcome.
That is 3 months I am just OUT that money.
So far I have won 3 of the oldest fake claims, 3 out of the 3 that have been completed.
Look, I understand if you're unhappy and want your money back, but AT LEAST reach out to me first, work with me, be understanding.
REMEMBER how cheap my products are... imagine how little money I am making because I actually care about the reefing more than the money.
I tried to be a good guy and it bit me in the butt.
I did custom fabrication work and rapid prototyping for 10+ years and saw the occasional attempt at this scam, but its way out of hand now.
But I simply can't afford to do this anymore.
I can't afford rent, I can't afford to fill current orders, money is back on credit cards, my credit score is being crushed.
Thank you to all my great customers but I won't be doing further business until next year when I can afford to setup chargeback protection insurance.
Unfortunately the damage is too great, too quickly.
This is a third job, I am just one guy trying to give back to reefing and help make it more fun and easier for nano reefers.
Now due to a significant percentage of them I don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow.
All open orders will be filled, beyond that I can't afford to take any more as the account is negative.
Thanks, and goodbye,
Jesse.
