mine eat the pellets like a pig in the QT along with my clowns, but after I transferred them to the DT they do that spit thing while my clowns are still pigs. Same size pellets, and the male has slim down quite a bit while the females now have a depressed belly.

Will anthias starve themselves to death?
I've had over a dozen lyretails at this point and I've never had one do that for long enough to get to that point. They'll eat when they're hungry enough and realize OMG THIS IS STILL FOOD!! :)

I read your suppose to feed them small amounts several times a day because of their high metabolism, so that's what I'm doing.

I have always fed my Lyretails like any other fish - once daily at most. They can be picky in the beginning but usually warm up to just about any appropriately sized food. As mentioned, cyclopeeze is a great starter.

What abou the other fish tho because I'm afraid to overfeed the rest of the crew and I have some tangs can can eat too
Make your feedings light. You can't really overfeed the fish (pretty much all fish normally eat all day every day in little bits each time), so little bits at a time.

Very interesting. With once daily feedings in a tank supplied with pods directly from the ocean, my lyretails would wither away.

i had a school of lyretails 12 strong and they eat once a day just mysis and hikari spirulina brine...they are beautiful in color and eat like pigs...they eat pellets also if i throw them in there but because it's a customer's tank i tend to try and feed the real stuff to keep them a little happier and a little more active...i've found fish that eat pellets tend to calm down and sort of slow down in a way? not sure if anyone else has noticed that but its just my experience with it...hasn't stopped me from using pellets just an observation after the fact
