Anthias ?

I want to add a couple to my reef but I’m hearing they need to be fed multiple times a day ? I don’t want to drive my nitrates through the roof . Can someone inform me on the care requirements?

They need to be fed a high carbs diet for their swimming habits

Multiple times a day is necessary, so instead of one big feeding, split it up to 3 times a day

I fed my anthias frozen food/brine shrimp 2-3x per a day. I've heard of people feeding 1x per a day; I imagine that they were feeding more nutrient-dense food like pellets.

I really like the look of them but I’m not home to feed 3x a day with my work schedule .

Get an automatic feeder and load it up with new life spectrum pellets. That’s what I do and I have had anthias for a good while now. I add in a little frozen food when I get home from work and everything is going swell.

How is your nitrate level ?

Relatively low, but consistent. I rarely test for it anymore, but I would say around 5-10ppm.

i had 3 lyretail anthias for two years and only fed once a day..ended up selling them in great condition. Maybe i got lucky. they were babies and grew to a nice size

I have a Red Sea 250 65 g . No prob with nitrate but I don’t want any lol. I like the Bartlett’s maybe 2 or 3

Bartlett are supposed to be among the most hardy, but also really active and aggressive among themselves.

I run a relatively low nutrient tank and have always fed my anthias (and other fish) only twice a day without any issues. Mysis in the morning and pellets/flake in the afternoon/night.

If you really mean schooling, then no. Some of the smaller species will schoal if you have larger fish. The larger pseudoanthias species mostly do not. Some of the latter will take pellets, most of the former will not. Lyretails are probably the best overall choice.

You're an anthias guy...what, if any, species would be best for a 36"x20"x20"? The adult lyretail and Bartlett I've seen don't seem like a good idea to me. Maybe P. ignitus?
