Have been kind of practicing with my recurve bow and wanted to see if anyone else on here practiced archery (hunting or target shooting). Would love to get some advice and tips!

Yea, I have always wanted to get into it but never had a bow until my uncle gave me is old recurve bow that her had. So now I am just trying to get the hang of it :D You should get a bow!

Don't really have anywhere to use it, maybe I'll look up some archery grounds.
But I do want one really bad.

I know a few city parks around me have archery ranges, try to see if your park system does also.
During the winter, I either shoot in my basement... it is good for about 12 yards, but heck, it keeps the bow and my eyes tuned in and driver the wife totally nuts :)

I will give you the same advice I I give my 8 and 6 year old.. lol
Never point it at anyone,
never shoot it into the sky or at anyone,
only point it at your target, or what you are planing on killing to eat for dinner.
Other than that.. do you know what your dominate eye is? since you have just a recurve, you should stand within 20 yards of your target until you get the full hang of how the bow works. When teaching my kids, I have them stand at the 10 yard mark.. you will get a good feel for the arrows path, and it will also teach you where you are aiming vs where the arrow lands.
Since a recurve does not have a peep sight, you will have to judge the arrows path from minor trial and error.
You will want to keep the elbow bent slightly (the one holding the bow) if you do not, you will get wickedly slapped by your bow string. the more layers of cloths on your arm, the more bent the elbow should be to let the sting slide past without getting caught.

I have a Martin Cheetah I hunt with sometimes. I don't bow hunt a lot but if I've already filled my big buck tag I'll get the bow out and go after a spike. It's usually a little hot and buggy here during archery only season. I like to wait until the water moccasins are hibernating before stomping through our woods. I do enjoy shooting my bow though. I need to do more of it. I'm planning on building some hog traps and doing some more hog hunting after deer season so maybe I'll do some hog hunts with my bow.

Once I get a lot better I do plan to go hunting (mostly deer and squirrels), do you think I should get a compound bow for this or will the recurve work?

Recurve for the squirrels, and compound for the Deer...
when squirrel hunting, get some arrows with fufu flights.. the arrows will travel at the same speed, but only half the distance. you will thank me for this because you will not lose many arrows!

I opted out of deer season this year... I am doing the predator hunt.. wold, bobcat, coyote.. figure for $40 bucks, I have a change at bringing home $1000 :) Thats the good thing of having a camp in the UP.. Lots of game :)

Consider using a light draw compound bow (like a Genesis) to learn on - with such a light bow with a light draw you can learn proper form and technique which can be much more difficult on a bow with a really heavy draw. Most ranges will have a bow like that to use and they are cheap to buy (under $100 used) and almost ubiquitous since it is what high schools use.
With a light bow that isn't crazy powerful you can shoot anywhere and shoot for hours without much fatigue which makes getting good much easier - especially if you are a skinny guy like me it is much less enjoyable using a powerful hunting bow (especially since I don't hunt).

I've never used a recurve so I can't say. Todays compound bows are so nice I wouldn't consider using one for deer hunting.

Thats ****** and awesome!my father, brought me and my brother into shooting bows. He loves to shoot, even after losing his arm he never gave up.
