Hi all,

I am seriously considering the following used Reefer 650 Peninsula. It would be my first rank. I have been researching and waiting to get into the hobby for the better part of a decade but being military, I was constantly in the move. Now that I’ve settled down, I’m ready to go big.

The tank I am considering is a Reefer 650 Peninsula Deluxe. It is less than a year old, previous owner apparently upgraded to a 450 gallon tank.

Ttank was purchased by a LFS with whom I would be purchasing for $3500. It has supposedly been cleaned by the LFS though the pictures don’t look overly clean to me. It is currently sitting at the original owners house waiting for purchase.

Price includes full AIO system, delivery to my house, 5x Hydra 26, and Reef Octopus 200sss Skimmer.

Anyone have thoughts? See any red flags or issues with the pictures?

Thanks!

I bought my P650 used for $3k. It was eight months old and the previous owner, another member in our local club was upgrading. Mine did not include lights but it did come with a skimmer. Personally I love my tank and would have no problem buying another used Red Sea. Below are some of the things to look for before pulling that trigger though.

- Check thoroughly for scratches because you won't be able to fix them
- Make sure the LFS is including all new Red Sea OEM gaskets and o-rings upon install at your house. That tank will leak if they try to reuse the old O-rings. If I were to redo mine I would actually replace all of the Red Sea plumbing and use standard sizes with a better gate valve. That might be next summers project for me. There is clearly non-standard Red Sea plumbing in the photo above so this may already be done for you.
- Inspect the glass seals multiple times. Pay close attention to the top corners. There was someone that reported a tank failure and theirs started in the top corner where you could clearly see de-lamination from the glass. Moving this size tank would only make that worse. If you see any sign of air in the seals walk away.

My used P650 the week that we set it up in our new house

I percent agree with just4plaay if it checks out. It’s an awesome tank and the hybrid lighting is worth it. I have the same with 4 hydras.

if it checks out go for it. I am setting up a RS650P as we speak.
agree about the RS gate valve replace it will something better. from what I hear thay are a pain in the but after a few months.

how old is the lighting? guessing you will need new T5 bulbs keep in might t5 are not going to be around for much longer. could be this year could be 5 years form now?

it's a + that they will deliver and set up the tank. the best is heavy, I would ask them what happens if its damaged in moving?

Just curious if you bought the P650 and how it went? The P500 or P650 is on my want list.

yeah I always wonder about treads that just die with out an outcome too.
if you have the space go with the 650p or custom. if I could do it over i prob. would have gone custom at 36" wide. IDK still love mt 650P sure are nice tanks.
