any sand sifting fish that dont jump?

I have lost a total of 3 diamond gobies as of last night. 2 never made it out of the qt tank (both jumped out of a tiny hole in the tank cover) and the third jumped last night after being in my display tank for several months. I didnt think and left my hinged hood open last night to come home from work today to a dried up goby. My sand has never looked so good with the diamond goby being in the tank. Are there any similar fish that dont jump to their death? I am guessing it has jumped before but bounced off the hood wall and fell back into the tank.

Sleeper head goby. The problem with qt’ing sand sand sifting gobies,is well they require sand.

All fish jump. There is some other sandsifting cuc that would be less troublesome. Reef hobbyist magazine did a piece about it in their most recent issue. Would definitely take a look at that. Or you could just do bb. ;)

Sure, but it isn't a fish, it's called a conch snail:

I might have to give the conch a try. I have a 210 gallon tank so I might need as many as 10-12. I have the cost of the snails invested in dead dried fish. I've tried a dragon goby once and boy what a mess that fish would make of the tank sifting sand up into the water column. The diamond wasnt bad with causing a sand storm in the water column but with their jumping tendency I dont think I will try another.

Yeah, my tank is 90 gallons with 60lbs of sand and 5 is just about right for mine, so I would say that proportionally that 10-12 would be right for your 210. They are a somewhat pricey snail (about $9-$10 each) but they are by far the most durable and adaptable snail I have seen. I have a hungry melanurus wrasse that likes to pick off inverts and it has just flat out given up on my conch snails. They are too smart and know when to duck and burrow. They used to hide during the day and strictly work at night, but they come out more during the day now and the wrasse pretty much ignores them. They are also amazing at flipping themselves over.

I've had a pink spotted watchman goby for about 13 years and it has "never" gone near the surface. It stays within about 5" of the sand. (results may not be experienced by all Users) :0)

All will jump, but the long slender ones... gobies, blennies and wrasses most of all, are experts at it. And I’ve found that lids don’t always work as they will find the tiniest hole to zoom through.

Wow. I’ve had a Diamond Goby for nine months and have never seen it near the top. Mine stays at the bottom and keeps my sand bed looking pristine.

All fish are prone to jumping if startled. My Rainford Goby does a great job on the sand and doesn't make a mess. I have 2 conch snails and the Rainford and my sand is spotless.
