I have certain green palys that grow extremely rapidly.

They are immune to any kind of paste, Joe's juice, scrubbing, cutting, etc

Even the tiniest lil speck left behind will regrow fully in.a matter of 3 Mos

So MY IDEA....

Cut them with scissors BUT cover the area with some sort of "silly putty" that adheres to the LR fir a few weeks.... allowing everything UNDERNEATH to die off.... not regenerate

QUESTION... is there some sort of reef safe , non leaching, silly putty that could work?

P.s. I've been working with these plays fir years and know how to protect myself from toxins

How about an epoxy mixed with a little crushed Coral or sand. You could use either a soft liquid/paste type or a thicker putty type. Epoxies are reef safe (assuming they don't contain metal) and will cure underwater.

Pull the rock and burn them lol. I have these green ones and they always make an appearance. This group was in a dark brute container in the cold but not freezing with no flow for over 6 months and they bounced back. Chances are even if you smother them there will be one hiding somewhere just waiting to appear.

But I'm talking about covering over colony patches of LR spanning inches by inches

Most areas are around a 3" x 3" area
Aquarium epoxy Maybe? It’ll harden in a few hours and look like rock after a while. Not supposed to manipulate it under water tho. It’s used mostly for aquascaping

Well.... my idea was to only stick some kind of putty over a 3" x 3" area after cutting and scrapping the heck.out of the colony of palys....

Leave this temporary putty there for a few weeks...

Then WAAALAAAA after removing the putty to reveal bare LR ...with no chance of palys returning and a FRESH patch of LR to grow other zoas

I've never used it so I'm not sure if it would work so the community will have to chime in... would kalk-paste work?

I get what ya mean and would recommend a 2 part coral epoxy for holding frags. Mix up a big wad and smother it over the stuff you want to kill off

The problems I see are - cutting off the tops of all these palys…they may be a type that contain palytoxin

And

Removing the epoxy. If those stalks die under the epoxy they will be mush and toxins and it’s one of those things best left covered. Seal them up. Leave the epoxy. The take new frags and epoxy them to the epoxy
