I’m about to upgrade to a 55g tank was going to do 75g but little low on space atm. But I’m moving everything from the 36g to the 55 and don’t really plan on adding more liverock if I don’t have to was woundering if anyone has done like a half of a boat pediment in there tank with corals coming out of it or etc.

When I set up my tank I didn’t know what I was doing. I planned for it to be a Fowlr predator rank, but of course as I learned and experienced, plans changed. Now I’m taking out the shipwreck, changing my lights, re-doing my rock work and going with corals.

I will say, the fish love the ship wreck. They swim in and out of the holes all day. I have a large black fin goby that took up residence in the boat and just sits staring out of his hole waiting to eat.

Why don’t you keep the ship and add corals to it looks nice

I’ve read repeatedly that the plastic decorations aren’t good for reef tanks. However I haven’t seen much evidence to back that up. But if I’m going to do this, I don’t know enough to take chances. Like to remove as many variables as possible. Keep it simple.

Being “bad” vs being “not good” are two different things in my opinion. By that I mean the plastic may not be doing harm, but it is likely not adding any benefit in the way that live rock does. I would say that aside from any evidence of leaching unwanted chemicals in the tank, the “bad“ could be interpreted as the shipwreck taking up space where proven good (aka live rock) would otherwise occupy.

I’m guessing the lighting needed for reef tanks takes a toll on it over time.
Maybe others will know if that would have a negative affect on corals or just degrade the decoration.
