So I made a little post about setting up a frag tank in a dorm room and after a little research I'm wondering if going with something like a 25 Fusion Lagoon would be the best bet. I wouldn't need to get a sump and buying some of them racks to go in the back for some chaeto or live rock could help with some of the filtration.

I'll post a link to it on BRS so yall can check it out and give a lil input

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/25-fusion-lagoon-aquarium-tank-only-innovative-marine.html

The main goal of this dorm room build is to have a tank that could be setup and ran for about 9-10 months out of the year and moved easily at the end of that time. I would be used to grow out some of my corals while I'm at college before being moved into my display tank back home. I'll be growing mainly LPS corals and my college is close to Rochester so I'll be able to travel a bit on weekends to trade/swap or buy new corals for the tank. I enjoy having my tank but not seeing it unless I travel on the weekends or during breaks is a bit of a let down. I hope by running the tank with a battery back up and a good ATO I'll have little to no worries with failure and I'll also be doing weekly water changes

I'm glad I'm the first person to answer this post because I have this same exact tank! Boy do I got a lot of stuff to tell you. Okay first of all, absolutely beautiful tank, high quality low iron glass, elegant. Perfect for reef tanks and taking photos due to the shallowness although not very shallow but it's not like you have to stick your entire arm into the tank when a coral frag falls over. Here's my build thread if your interested.

So as far as media wise I just use seachem matrix bio media, seachem purigen in the bag, and for additives I use their line of aquavitro calcification and ions and that's only when needed to raise up calcium and magnesium. And I do once a week 5 gallon water change using seachem reef salt my favorite salt and I always recommend it because it dissolves easily and it has good amounts of all the reef "essential elements". I use an aquamaxx hob-1 skimmer which I absolutely love and recommend and it's by far my favorite skimmer ever. Barely a break in period. Bulk reef supply pukani rock is the rock of my choice, it's very porous and allows for a ton of beneficial bacteria and then for this tank I used Coraline gravel by CaribSea Brands . Took this approach with dry rather than live just because I like the gravel size and it's working well so far. Helps add to the "lagoon" look. Return pump is stock that came with the tank. And then for a circulation/wave maker I have a mp10qdw. I feed Fauna Marin USA LLC lps color and growth pellets for all the acans and lobos and favias and I feed the fish mysis soaked in once again seachem garlic guard. I use carbon off and on about once a month of every couple of months for about a week or so. Fluval E-Series 100watt heater. I have an Neptune Systems apex with a leak detection module with solid surface probe, Double Junction pH probe, temp probe.

Wow what a write up haha

My main focus for this tank is to leave it bare bottom with a ln acrylic frag rack about 2 inchs off the bottom. It also looks very nice so having it setup just gives a very nice feel and look vs a 20g long with a hob haha

Nice tank btw :o

Thanks. I had it bare bottom for months but didn't like it especially with the way the vibration mat looks. But I am going to try to figure out how to re aquascape the rock work to give it that lagoon feel you see in the demo photos. It's a beautiful tank. I have 4 tanks sometimes more running at a time and this one is hands down my favorite for the past 11 years in this hobby.
