I am running a brand-new Gyre XF-230. I've gone through all of the instructions and all the YouTube videos and I'm not sure the best way to set this yet.
I have a 30 gallon nouveau cube. When I plug and play the pump, it churns up at 50%, making huge bumps in my sand...
Really pi$$ing some of my corals off...
The instructions say there are many ways to set this pump, but do not really have any suggestions for a 30 gallon?
I love the options this gives me, but was wondering if anybody else had experience with this pump?

In a 30 cube this is way overkill.....try setting it at 10-20% and see how it works ....I'm not sure for that small of a tank you will be able to make it work well....I've never tried to set one up in that size tank....I usually use the xf230 in a 55 gallon which at 50% blows everything around that is in direct flow....also try putting it about 25% down the tank wall....might help a bit as well

I will try to adjust that- thanks!
This pump is supposed to work for tanks 29 gals and up, but it sure seems to have a LOT of poster! I like the idea, though!

I think though that a typical 29 is longer than wide...where your cube is the same....let us know if it works.

50% in that tank might be a bit high. Although i have 2 gyres in my 62g cube at 50% max random from 0800-2200, then 2200 to 2400 at 30% pulse antisync, then 0001 to 0800 at 30/30 Alt gyre. My tank loves it , and the controler is way better than the last and easier to use. I have both pumps aimed 45% up at each other. Good luck

No, I ma a dork. That was a mis-type. I meant "20 gallons and up."
I have a 30 gallon...

I am trying to learn now how to adjust the flow amount.
I think I WILL like it, I love the idea of it... just need to dial it in right!

Holy cow that sounds complicated! How did you know how to set it like that?
What makes you choose alternating, pulsing... length of times...
I want to learn how to figure that out.
I have just one pump in a 30 gallon cube, so I can't alternate pumps...

Any suggestions for me?

lol its simple really, you dont have to do all crazy like that just set it in L.T.C mode and thats it. Its a preset program and works pretty good set l.t.c at 30% and forget about it.

I'm getting ready to buy the XF230 as well. Anybody know about the noise level? Not to loud I hope. And will 1 do the job in a 55 gal. tank?

I can only hear it if I am close up and trying to! Love it!
Turned mine down in power and it seems better for my size tank.
I have it at a 20% to 10% pulsing mode.

I have 2 130's in a jbj 45 cube on opposite walls. I have 1 about 3" down horizontally mounted pointed at the surface and one vertical pointed across the back wall. I have both set to 40% pulse. Great flow just under sandstorm velocity. The sand stays put unless something disturbs it into the water column then it blows around. I can't hear either of mine, very quiet in my experience. I have had them about 8 months.

I wasn't able to figure out what "L.T.C" meant...
Lunar Tide Cycle. Its one of the preset modes in the new controller. Kinda mimics tides in the ocean. Just set and forget, no need to program anything.

OOOoooo shiny!!!
I will try that today! Will little bit of trial and error I am getting better at this. I placed it a little bit lower in the tank, aimed the flow up a bit, and now do not seem to get as many air bubbles whizzing around in circles and it is not upsetting my sand.
Still very happy with it! The air is on my side just learning how to use it correctly! I want to try the lunar cycle that sounds amazing!

Yes, if you bought the whole set with the extra directional wheels, it will have controller.
African, I am not sure. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos and I think if I remember correctly there was one guy from Florida who had one running in a shallow frag tank. You might want to do some searching

In re-reading this, I have no idea why "spell check" changed one of my words to "African"' I guess I should always check before sending it off--

I have 1 230 and 1 130 in a 60g tank. both are set to random 100% I'm actually thinking of adding a pair of mp10s or maybe mp40s. currently the sand hardly moves with the gyres. I'd like to go barebottom and blast the tank with water flow

I can say that I have the 280 and I had to drop it to 30% in my 200gal as it was pushing the sand at the far end . It will move water and yes it is quite.
