Anyone use the Deltec VF Fleece Roller

I like the look of the Deltec VF fleece roller, but I don't see any reviews. Is anyone using them, and if so, what are your thoughts?

Well, I called the Dealer about the Deltec, and they didn't know more than I did. Then I called Deltec USA, and the lady basically read the brochure. I asked her a few questions, and her answers were logical guesses. From watching the limited YouTube, they seem to be very well made, changing the rolls looks easy, almost can do it without gettings yours hands wet. My concern is that nobody is using it, it is expensive, so is that why it isn't popular? If it is built as well as it looks and the rolls can be changed that easily, I will go with it; if either of those is not, I will be an unhappy guy. You said you were curious about them, so I thought I would update you with my latest research.

That is good to hear. From the research I have done, it seems well-built. It looks like changing roles is super easy. Is that, in fact, true? Also, I was concerned about the with. Am I correct in seeing in your picture that the inlet is above the top of the sump, so the additional inlet is a non-issue? Considering the cost, I wanted to hear from someone with real-world experience with it. Thank you very much.

Deltec: superb customer service!

Inlet: there is only one and yes, mine is above the sump. I used a flexible tubing to go from the 1.5" drain line into it. I was going to do PVC tubings but was very challenging given the direction of my drain line & the Deltec.

Rolls: yes, super easy to change rolls. I was going through the rolls that shipped with the unit in 2 weeks! I've discover https://preconfilter.com/ and they can make custom rolls for the Deltec (and other filter rollers) for more than half the cost. The new rolls of 50mu from Precision last more than a month! Talk to Steve @ Precision Converting (super cool guy) and ask for custom sizes for your fleece roller. I've ordered 50yd & 75yd, 50 microns, and the width of 7 1/8 wide (I will do 7 1/4 going fwd though).

@backbayreef is your roller unit sitting on the bottom of your sump or did you hang it from the built in hooks? Thinking of purchasing this one but not sure on how to mount it in my sump. Is there a correct water level for the unit? Thanks for the info.

Sorry I missed this. It’s hanging from the built-in lip of the Advanced Acrylics sump. I’m not aware of the water level requirements.

Good choice. I’m super happy with it — keep in mind: the original fleece will deplete pretty fast (25mu?) so you’ll need to get an alternative (see my previous post) to be cost effective.

@backbayreef my roller is arriving tomorrow. When I contact your fleece roll guy do I need to give him measurements/specs or does he know what I need for the Deltec?

Steve should have the dimensions since he did one for me already.
Density: 50 micron
Width: I originally went with 7 1/8” wide but will go 7 1/4” wide going forward for a better fit.

Keep in mind that all their rolls have smaller diameters vs the stock one. I 3D-printed a long cylinder but Steve can recommend someone who can do it for you.

You can just order 2 to try out first before placing a big order.
