Apex and Heater

Finally got my Apex set up! I realized my heater has its own controller, you can set it at say 79 and when the probe on the heater reaches 79 it shuts off.

I trust the apex more, so would it be wise to set the heater at say 80 and the apex logic 77-78 or should the be set a different way? I like having fail safes but want to make sure I’m doing this correctly. Heater is in the sump with the probes, 90 gallon tank. Thanks!
 
Most would say to let the heater controller control the temperature and use the apex logic to set failsafes to turn it off and alarm you if it gets out of range. This provides some redundancy and saves a lot of power on/off cycles on your EB832.

So set the temp on the heater to like 78-79 and the apex logic to alert if it goes above 82 and below 74?

This is how I have my heaters set up. Heaters>inkbird controller>apex. Inkbird is set 77 +\- 1 degree, and then apex is set to 76-80, in case the inkbird or heaters fail. It seems to work well. I did not want the Neptune cycling the heater on/off constantly by setting too rigid parameters.

You’ve got it right. Just calibrate the temperature probe for the Apex, and hope the heater controller temp probe is a close match because you typically can’t calibrate those. (I may be wrong about that).

Your suggested settings should be a good start. Just monitor the temperature graph in Apex Fusion for a few days and adjust Apex on/off logic as needed.
