This is the internet. Like everything else on it the negatives out way the positives 100 to 1.

Right, but here if there is a chain of people who have a problem, they discuss it. If they like it they discuss and if they dislike it they discuss it. Also, for the amount of discussion threads with this common problem, including this one, for a $200-$400 dollar product, that is unacceptable to me. I would listen to my customers and fix it so there is no problem out of the box. So my point, they should fix it. I'm not blinded by purchases, I like some of their products and others unfortunately definitely need improvement. And I'm confident saying that.

I have also had my Neptune ATK for about a year, and also use a bunch of their optical sensors for various control functions.... Automatic Water Change, other water level lines for safety.... Never had a problem. You do need to make sure the Sesnor is clear of salt creap.... I have had some salt build up on sensors and that can effect the open and close status. That is on us, not fault of sensor....

salt creap was the first thing I checked. I cleaned it with RO water just to be sure their was nothing on the sensor.

One theory I’ve heard/read about the optical sensors is that the plastic coating develops micro cracks. With sensors that get wet and then dry out, a tiny amount of water makes it in, then as it dries, the salt crystallizes and expands the crack, making the problem worse.

No idea if it’s an accurate theory or not, but I can say that I’ve had issues with my optical sensors several times over the last year and each time I’ve verified that they were clean and nothing was interfering with them. I can’t say what the true rate of problems is, but I can say that I’ve seen many complaints about the issue both here and on Neptune’s forum, so I dont’ think it’s a couple of isolated issues.

A guy I know who runs a tank maintenance business has had repeated problems with the ATKs on his customers’ tanks and had Neptune try to blame the installation or programming. He’s to the point that he’s not going to use them.

I have had nothing but problems with my ATK as well. it will be a year in August since I ve had this. If I was able to return it I would in a heartbeat. I am not happy with this product and for the price I expected it to work straight out of the box which it didn't and it has gone downhill from there. I love my apex classic though. This is the only product I have had major issues with and would return if I could.

I have actually noticed tiny cracks or scratches on the sensors. I might just buy two new sensors and see what happens
