I bought a BNIB apex gold from a fellow reefer and set it up a week ago. My pH probe had the plastic cover on it, but no fluid in it keeping it moist.

I watched BRS instruction video and said if the probe is dry, to put it in the pH 4 solution overnight, but I didn't have that (I ordered some so should get this week).

I attempted to calibrate the pH probe anyways and it seemed to work "OK" until yesterday when it started swinging between pH 8-9. No changes to my tank and my pH is around 7.8 according to Salifert pH test.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

It is not unusual for probes to need aclimation before they settle. They have been stored with a solution that for some time. Give it a few days and calibrate the port again.
