Looks like aiptasia to me, take a picture of it in white light, it will help us determine 100%.

It’s a small one but yes that is Aptasia. Do you know how to get rid of it? Get some aptasia x. Be slow and careful when applying the paste on the disk. Make sure you cover the entire disk when applying. It is a very effective product when used correctly. If you don’t cover the whole disk, there is a very high chance it will spread its seed as a Defence mechanism for the species.

Also look around everywhere, if you have one double check you don’t have more.

It still looks like aptasia to me.

It’s very likely it came in on a frag or in the water from a frag bag. It could have been in spore form when introducing frags if you didn’t visually see one. Over time the spore found a good resting spot and that leads to where you are today. This is why it’s good practice to never mix someone else’s water with yours and to dip frags.

I made that mistake once and I too have bubble algae and aptasia I still control to this day.

They are a very invasive species when left un-treated so you’ll want to eradicate it sooner than later. But it definitely can be done with staying on top of it if you see one.

If you're battling just one or two, I've had good luck loading a needle and syringe that you can find at any pharmacy for about 50 cents with lemon juice (or vinegar), then sticking and injecting the 'nem. You do have to sneak up on them, if they sense your shadow, they will retreat back into the rock.

Perhaps state laws are different, but in New York I can go to any CVS, Walgreens, etc. and ask for an insulin needle, it's as simple as that for me.

Yeah not for me :( I asked and they said they can't give them to me. Only the syringes no needles. I could order one online potentially.

That's too bad, they are readily available by me, and I had thought pretty much everywhere. I wonder what diabetics who need insulin shots have to do, I guess they have to have a prescription?

One thing I do know about is aptaaia and how to spread it. I started with one little anemome had no clue what it was left it alone for a week or two, and then within a few months it covered my entire tank. I was guilty of not covering the entire disk with the aiptasia X and as posted above it spread like wildfire, the stuff is like cancer literally as soon as you open it up it’s gone everywhere

I just started a new tank and unfortunately, some of the live rock that I purchased from the LFS had three or four aiptasia on it I tried lemon juice, but of course I didn’t shut down the powerhead so it didn’t do any good. The LFS SUGGESTED I PUT FOUR PISTOL SHRIMP IN AND LO AND BEHOLD. THE NEXT DAY. IT WAS ALL GONE. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS TO THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND IT. I HAVE USED NUDI BRANCHES WHICH TAKE SOME TIME TO WORK AND THEY’RE EXPENSIVE AND SOMETIMES TOUGH TO GET.

My local lfs uses the coral binding putty (I can't think of the name) and just smoothers it. Just like with injecting it though if you don't get it in one swoop you'll have it everywhere.
