Hi all, new here.
I have what looks to been one piece of aptasia. I haven't added any anything at all to my tank for at least six months and I make my own salt water.
Anyone have any idea how long it would actually take for aptasia to rear it's ugly head.

They don't appear out of thin air, it probably came in on your live rock and finally grew big enough to become noticeable or it was in a different spot you couldn't see and decided it needed to move.

Good news is that it looks like it's in a little hole. If you can take the rock out you can cover the hole with super glue. If you can't remove the rock, take a good size glob of two part epoxy stick and cover the hole. In a few months you can chip the epoxy away and the aiptasia should be gone.

Bad news is if there is one that big in the tank, there's a likelihood of there being more. Keep a lookout and remediate as needed.

Thank you for the reply. My rocks were not live, off the shelf. I usually look for any unwanted guests and this is the first time I've noticed it, I haven't seen any others. Thanks again.

How long has tank been set up?

Know this, you have more Aptasia in your tank. Anything wet has potentially brought in Aptasia.

I'm guessing they all start out the size of a grain of salt (?), so the bad news would be, 'have fun' actually trying to see 100% of them coming in on a frag plug, etc. 😟

It appeared in mine after two years. It had to come from live food from the fish store
